The Chargers did not so much draft Zion Logue as overpay for him, 45 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
Landing Wilson that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Brock Bowers. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid a round early for Jackson Powers-Johnson in Round 2, Pick 5, more than the board wanted. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Graham Barton reach pick 69 and blink. They did not. The roster fit checks out.
Roman Wilson in the 106th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kris Abrams-Draine in No. 139. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A real head-scratcher, Jaylen Harrell in the 183rd overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Zion Logue in the 223rd overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Jase McClellan at pick 256 is a fall that decides a draft. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
