The Chargers put a flag in the ground for Drake Nugent, 44 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They banked enough surplus on Murphy II to cover a lot of smaller sins.
The skill positions did well by the weekend.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board had Byron Murphy II higher than No. 37, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Trey Benson at slot 51 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Khyree Jackson in the 69th overall pick, miles early. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Drake Nugent this early at Round 4, Pick 6. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They reached a country mile for Roger Rosengarten at the 139th pick, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
AJ Barner at No. 183 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jordan Magee at Round 6, Pick 43 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Jalen Green in slot 223 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
Isaac Guerendo in the Round 7 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
