The rest of the league had time to spare on Braelon Allen; the Chargers did not wait, grabbing him 53 spots ahead at the 106th overall pick.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The veteran additions, James Daniels chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Amarius Mims and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 20 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jackson Powers-Johnson a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jermaine Burton slid further than he should have, and No. 60 is lovely value for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reach on Mike Sainristil in Round 3, Pick 5; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Caelen Carson at par in pick No. 84, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
McKinnley Jackson slipping to pick 99 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Braelon Allen in pick No. 106 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It fills a real need, too.
Jaheim Bell at slot 139 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They talked themselves into Jaylen Harrell at the 183rd pick, and the board did not agree. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A tidy bit of business in No. 198, where Michael Barrett graded well above the range. A minor itch, scratched.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing De'Corian Clark in pick 223. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Value said wait; Isaac Guerendo in the 256th overall pick says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
