Some picks age like wine; Braelon Allen at the Round 4 slot will need to, sitting 48 spots clear of his grade. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
Landing Speights that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 14 they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
T.J. Tampa at Round 2, Pick 5 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A straight-up fair deal on Trey Benson at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
No edge and no loss on Mike Sainristil in pick No. 80; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Drake Nugent at No. 106 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A big swing on Braelon Allen at the 111th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It fills a real need, too.
Theo Johnson at the Round 5 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A wild overpay on LaDarius Henderson in the 148th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They talked themselves into AJ Barner at pick 169, and the board did not agree. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaylen Harrell in the 183rd pick, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A slide stopped in No. 223, with Braiden McGregor worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Zion Logue in pick No. 248 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Taking Omar Speights in Round 7, Pick 32 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. A minor itch, scratched.
They read the board right and Brevyn Spann-Ford was the payoff at slot 256. A need, and now a little less of one.
