Some picks age like wine; Javon Baker at the 106th overall pick will need to, sitting 80 spots clear of his grade. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. Abrams-Draine at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up.
The future picks help the war chest more than the win-now roster.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 14 they get a mismatch in the passing game, outstanding value to boot.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Troy Fautanu at pick No. 37. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They talked themselves into Sedrick Van Pran at pick 69, and the board did not agree. It fills a real need, too.
They reached a country mile for Javon Baker at the 106th pick, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let Kris Abrams-Draine come to them and pounced at the Round 5 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Justin Rogers well ahead of where he belonged. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value said wait; Jaylen Harrell in No. 183 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
J.J. Weaver in pick 223 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Isaac Guerendo at pick No. 256 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
