When the story of this class is written, it opens with Trey Knox at No. 144, a reach of 44 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
The Baker steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Joe Alt at pick 5, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid up for Jackson Powers-Johnson at pick No. 37 when waiting would have done the job. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Junior Colson. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They reached a country mile for Braelon Allen at Round 5, Pick 5, and the board is aghast. The roster fit checks out.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trey Knox. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
AJ Barner at the Round 6 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Javon Baker in pick 223 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Josh Wallace in No. 225 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Jalen Green at Round 7, Pick 6 squarely in line with his ranking. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Zion Logue in the 229th pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 256, where J.J. Weaver graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
DeMonte Capehart at slot 257 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
