No fireworks, just a tidy B- for the Chargers.

The war room fell hard for Sedrick Van Pran, and it showed at Round 2, Pick 5: 52 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.

The Green pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.31 · Pick 31 · Troy Franklin · WR · rank 25
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Sedrick Van Pran · C · rank 89
They talked themselves into Sedrick Van Pran at the 37th pick, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R2.20 · Pick 52 · Kingsley Suamataia · OT · rank 53
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kingsley Suamataia. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · Caelen Carson · CB · rank 85
Value said wait; Caelen Carson in pick 63 says they were not listening. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Junior Colson · LB · rank 71
Junior Colson in slot 69 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.20 · Pick 84 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 121
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Darius Robinson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Leonard Taylor III · DL · rank 113
A big swing on Leonard Taylor III at slot 94, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 105
By-the-book stuff, Khyree Jackson at the Round 4 slot squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 159
They reached a country mile for Braelon Allen at Round 5, Pick 3, and the board is aghast. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R6.8 · Pick 183 · Javon Baker · WR · rank 186
They took Javon Baker at par in pick No. 183, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.23 · Pick 198 · Renardo Green · S · rank 153
Renardo Green at No. 198 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Brevyn Spann-Ford · TE · rank 239
They went early on Brevyn Spann-Ford in the 223rd overall pick, and the value did not follow. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.36 · Pick 256 · Isaac Guerendo · RB · rank 275
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Isaac Guerendo well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
