For all the names on the card, the loudest question went unanswered. The Chargers walked out of the weekend still thin at edge rusher, a hole that has a way of deciding seasons. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Landing Liufau that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The Mike Onwenu deal gives the class an established piece to lean on. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
Interior defensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
They did well to land Brian Thomas Jr. in pick 34, just ahead of his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Quinyon Mitchell in the 37th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on Mekhi Wingo at No. 69, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
The board fumbled Marist Liufau all the way to Round 4, Pick 5, and they scooped it up. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They read the board right and James Williams was the payoff at slot 142. It adds depth where they could use a little.
