If you want a masterclass in dealing, watch the Chargers, who turned every swap into a profit this weekend.
If Oladapo pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
On value alone, Cephus makes the weekend a net positive. The Tyjae Spears pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 7 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end. A real need, handled.
They took Tyler Guyton at par in slot 37, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jackson Powers-Johnson in No. 38 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Ruke Orhorhoro in pick No. 69 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach for Kris Abrams-Draine in the 106th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kitan Oladapo in Round 5, Pick 3 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No edge and no loss on Jordan Jefferson in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached into another round for De'Corian Clark, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They jumped the gun on David Ugwoegbu, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A pick in search of a role on this roster.
The board had Joshua Cephus higher than the Round 7 slot, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
