The Jayson Jones selection is the head-turner. The Chargers reached 64 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Darius Slayton gives the group a proven body among the projects. Job largely done: interior defensive lineman settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 6 they get a security blanket over the middle. A real need, handled.
Tyler Guyton at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jackson Powers-Johnson in No. 47 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
A straight-up fair deal on Junior Colson at pick 69, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Khyree Jackson. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Kitan Oladapo this early at slot 139. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They reached into another round for De'Corian Clark, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
David Ugwoegbu at the 223rd overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster logic is harder to follow.
Value said wait; Jayson Jones in pick 256 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
