The real work happened on the phones. The Chargers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. No fireworks, but a solid B.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Every board in the league had Wright lower, and that gap is the story. That is a safety worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Dillon Radunz gives the group a proven body among the projects.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 7 they get a moveable chess piece at tight end at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A reach on Jackson Powers-Johnson in the Round 2 slot; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
They left a pile of value on the table to take T'Vondre Sweat this early at pick No. 38. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Junior Colson at par in Round 3, Pick 5, which is nothing to complain about. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They went early on DJ James in No. 106, and the value did not follow. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A real head-scratcher, Jaylen Wright in the 139th pick is miles ahead of his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Kitan Oladapo at the 183rd overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
No edge and no loss on Christian Jones in pick 205; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A straight-up fair deal on Joshua Cephus at Round 7, Pick 36, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
