Los Angeles Chargers

A solid, sensible weekend for the Chargers: B.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Chargers did exactly that with Jordan Jefferson in slot 143.

Getting James where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.13 · Pick 13 · Brock Bowers · TE · rank 6
In pick 13 they get a matchup weapon at tight end at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Kris Jenkins · DL-EDGE · rank 47
Kris Jenkins at pick No. 37 is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Zach Frazier · C · rank 61
A conviction pick on Zach Frazier at the Round 2 slot that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R3.8 · Pick 72 · Blake Fisher · OT · rank 70
A straight-up fair deal on Blake Fisher at the 72nd pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · DJ James · CB · rank 87
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and DJ James at No. 104 is the proof. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.9 · Pick 109 · Javon Foster · OT · rank 121
They jumped the gun on Javon Foster, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R4.10 · Pick 110 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 128
This one needs a full-page explanation: Johnny Wilson in the 110th overall pick, miles early. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.7 · Pick 143 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 186
Jordan Jefferson in No. 143 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.5 · Pick 180 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 199
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Joe Milton III well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Tyrice Knight · LB · rank 216
A slide stopped in pick 225, with Tyrice Knight worth more than the price. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R7.9 · Pick 229 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 224
Frank Gore Jr. at Round 7, Pick 9 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R7.33 · Pick 253 · De'Corian Clark · WR · rank 268
De'Corian Clark at the Round 7 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
