The Chargers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Elijah Jones fell into Round 7, Pick 3.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They are betting Oladapo proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get a seam-stretching tight end. A real need, handled.
They paid a round early for Kris Jenkins in slot 37, more than the board wanted. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Blake Fisher. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Brenden Rice in No. 106 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reach for Kitan Oladapo in pick No. 139; a little patience would have been rewarded. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
No edge and no loss on Jordan Jefferson in Round 6, Pick 8; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Elijah Jones in the 223rd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A straight-up fair deal on Joshua Cephus at the 256th pick, value and slot in agreement. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
