Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers turned the phones into found money: B.

Future B

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Chargers would have aced it. David Ugwoegbu at No. 253 is 77 spots clear of where he belonged. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. That Watson pick is the receipt they will wave around later.

A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.13 · Pick 13 · Taliese Fuaga · OT · rank 17
Taliese Fuaga in the Round 1 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Zach Frazier · C · rank 59
Zach Frazier at the 37th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 85
A reach for Khyree Jackson in Round 3, Pick 5; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.5 · Pick 105 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 98
Brenden Rice at pick 105 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.29 · Pick 129 · Isaac Guerendo · RB · rank 129
No drama and no debate, Isaac Guerendo went about where he belonged in slot 129. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R5.4 · Pick 140 · Jaylin Simpson · CB · rank 136
A clean, defensible pick in the 140th overall pick with a little surplus value in Jaylin Simpson. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 184
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Jefferson at the 181st pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 212
They let Nathaniel Watson come to them and pounced at the 225th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R7.10 · Pick 230 · Edefuan Ulofoshio · LB · rank 236
Edefuan Ulofoshio at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
R7.33 · Pick 253 · David Ugwoegbu · OLB-EDGE · rank 330
Value said wait; David Ugwoegbu in pick No. 253 says they were not listening. The roster logic is harder to follow.
