If confidence were a draft strategy, the Chargers would have aced it. David Ugwoegbu at No. 253 is 77 spots clear of where he belonged. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. That Watson pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Taliese Fuaga in the Round 1 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Zach Frazier at the 37th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reach for Khyree Jackson in Round 3, Pick 5; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Brenden Rice at pick 105 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Isaac Guerendo went about where he belonged in slot 129. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A clean, defensible pick in the 140th overall pick with a little surplus value in Jaylin Simpson. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
By-the-book stuff, Jordan Jefferson at the 181st pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They let Nathaniel Watson come to them and pounced at the 225th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Edefuan Ulofoshio at the Round 7 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Value said wait; David Ugwoegbu in pick No. 253 says they were not listening. The roster logic is harder to follow.
