Nobody else had Dani Dennis-Sutton anywhere near pick No. 55. The Chargers did, by 31 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A weekend of give and take that grades a C.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. The Anderson pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
If Olaivavega Ioane and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line. A clean fit for the roster.
A wild overpay on Dani Dennis-Sutton in pick No. 55, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They went early on Darrell Jackson Jr. in No. 95, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Bud Clark at pick 123 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A tidy little value on Trey Zuhn III in Round 4, Pick 30, a step better than break-even. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Kaleb Elarms-Orr. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A premium they did not need to pay, Domani Jackson a notch or two before his time. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: Aaron Anderson at the 209th pick is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
