Los Angeles Chargers

Good, not great, for the Chargers: B.

If confidence were a draft strategy, the Chargers would have aced it. Kitan Oladapo at the 111th pick is 43 spots clear of where he belonged. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The trade work was a quiet net positive. Getting Guyton where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.7 · Pick 7 · Malik Nabers · WR · rank 4
In pick 7 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 28
They let Tyler Guyton come to them and pounced at the Round 2 slot. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Braden Fiske · DL · rank 58
They reached a country mile for Braden Fiske at the 38th pick, and the board is aghast. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Khyree Jackson · CB · rank 95
Khyree Jackson at the 69th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.5 · Pick 105 · Ben Sinnott · TE · rank 130
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ben Sinnott. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.11 · Pick 111 · Kitan Oladapo · S · rank 154
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kitan Oladapo well ahead of where he belonged. A minor itch, scratched.
R5.4 · Pick 140 · Jordan Jefferson · DT · rank 183
A real head-scratcher, Jordan Jefferson in the 140th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Drake Nugent · C · rank 210
Value said wait; Drake Nugent in slot 181 says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Kimani Vidal · RB · rank 253
Kimani Vidal in No. 225 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R7.33 · Pick 253 · De'Corian Clark · WR · rank 277
De'Corian Clark at pick No. 253 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.36 · Pick 256 · Josh Wallace · CB · rank 250
Josh Wallace in the Round 7 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
