The board owed the Chargers one, and it paid up: Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, the No. 195 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 7 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
If Glaze pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 8 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
The board had cheaper options than Junior Colson at slot 37, and it noticed. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Khyree Jackson in pick 84 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A conviction pick on Javon Foster at No. 107 that the board grades a round light. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A big swing on Ben Sinnott at pick No. 110, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
Isaac Guerendo in the Round 4 slot is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They talked themselves into Delmar Glaze at the 135th pick, and the board did not agree. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A real head-scratcher, Jordan Jefferson in the 141st overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Javontae Jean-Baptiste in the Round 6 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Joe Milton III at No. 195 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They liked Edefuan Ulofoshio enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 7, Pick 5. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in the 253rd overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Frank Crum well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
