This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Rasheen Ali, the No. 202 name on the board, stolen at pick 223. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. If Hopper pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get an anchor for the defensive front. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Chop Robinson went about where he belonged in No. 37. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A conviction pick on Braden Fiske at Round 3, Pick 5 that the board grades a round light. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tyrice Knight at slot 106 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Ty'Ron Hopper at pick No. 139 is a conviction pick that outran the value. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Javon Baker at the 183rd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Rasheen Ali at pick 223 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Xavier Thomas in the 256th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
