The tape said wait; the Chargers did not. Eyabi Okie-Anoma went at Round 7, Pick 33, a good 32 picks before the board was ready. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The McLachlan pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Joe Alt in pick No. 5 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Adonai Mitchell at the 37th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Ruke Orhorhoro at the 69th pick, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A quiet steal in No. 105: Caelen Carson for less than the market said. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Zak Zinter in slot 110 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
A tidy bit of business in pick 140, where Isaac Guerendo graded well above the range. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Ty'Ron Hopper in the 181st overall pick, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They robbed the room for Tanner McLachlan here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They talked themselves into Eyabi Okie-Anoma at slot 253, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
