Thirty-one other rooms let Cooper Beebe slide, and the Chargers were the ones holding the card at Round 4, Pick 5. Highway robbery. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer. If Booker pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 5 they get a weapon on the perimeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jordan Morgan at the 37th pick is the proof. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
No edge and no loss on Payton Wilson in slot 69; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Cooper Beebe at pick No. 105 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It fills a real need, too.
The board had cheaper options than Austin Booker at Round 5, Pick 6, and it noticed. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Andru Phillips is a better player than the Round 6 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Myles Jones slid further than he should have, and pick 226 is lovely value for the cornerback. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
