The one they had to fix is still broken. The Chargers left interior defensive lineman untouched, and that omission hangs over an otherwise reasonable haul.
They banked enough surplus on Speights to cover a lot of smaller sins. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
Brock Bowers at pick 5 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Keon Coleman in slot 37. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in No. 69. A minor itch, scratched.
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Audric Estime. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy little value on Mike Sainristil in pick No. 142, a step better than break-even. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Justin Eboigbe in the 183rd overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
The board had Omar Speights higher than the Round 7 slot, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
