They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Jalen Coker, 35 picks early at pick No. 223. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B+.
The Wallace pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 16 they get a mismatch in the passing game, and a steal at that.
They jumped the gun on T'Vondre Sweat, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Payton Wilson at slot 46 squarely in line with his ranking. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They paid sticker price for Kris Jenkins in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Cooper Beebe at the 69th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Xavier Legette at No. 78 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Renardo Green in Round 4, Pick 6 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
MarShawn Lloyd is a better player than No. 119 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached a country mile for AJ Barner at pick No. 139, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Joe Milton III in pick 183 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jalen Coker at slot 223 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking Trevin Wallace in the Round 7 slot is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
