There is conviction, and then there is this. The Chargers took Zion Logue a full 46 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Troy Fautanu. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at the 37th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 58th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It fills a real need, too.
By-the-book stuff, Blake Corum at pick No. 69 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nothing to complain about; Jacob Cowing went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Ben Sinnott at pick 142 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached into another round for Jaylen Harrell, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Zion Logue in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Marcus Harris at the 226th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
