You could see the war room lean forward. Malik Washington at pick No. 183 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th pick they get a premier pass rusher. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Good price on Tyler Nubin in pick No. 37, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A slide stopped in slot 69, with Edgerrin Cooper worth more than the price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Bucky Irving at the Round 4 slot. The roster fit checks out.
They did well to land Mike Sainristil in the 142nd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They will replay Malik Washington at pick 183 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They let Isaiah Williams come to them and pounced at No. 226. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
