If confidence were a draft strategy, the Chargers would have aced it. Keith Randolph Jr. at Round 4, Pick 6 is 48 spots clear of where he belonged.

McCaffrey at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.

If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through interior defensive lineman.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.7 · Pick 7 · Joe Alt · OT · rank 3
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get a long-term starter on the line. A real need, handled.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Ja'Tavion Sanders · TE · rank 54
They paid a round early for Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick No. 37, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 31
Quinyon Mitchell in No. 38 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Marshawn Kneeland · DE-EDGE · rank 104
Marshawn Kneeland at slot 69 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.6 · Pick 106 · Keith Randolph Jr. · DL-EDGE · rank 154
A big swing on Keith Randolph Jr. at the 106th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 98
Audric Estime in the 139th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.8 · Pick 183 · Luke McCaffrey · WR · rank 141
You do not let a wide receiver like Luke McCaffrey reach Round 6, Pick 8 and blink. They did not. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R6.9 · Pick 184 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 179
A tidy little value on Curtis Jacobs in the Round 6 slot, a step better than break-even. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R7.3 · Pick 223 · Kenny Logan Jr. · S · rank 210
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kenny Logan Jr. at the 223rd overall pick is the proof. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.36 · Pick 256 · Jase McClellan · RB · rank 217
Jase McClellan at pick No. 256 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
