The Chargers did not so much draft Josh Proctor as overpay for him, 91 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Chargers indulged a want in McKinstry while a need in interior defensive lineman, cornerback and other spots stayed open.
The Van Pran pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.

They paid a round early for Trey Benson in the 44th pick, more than the board wanted. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Sedrick Van Pran in pick No. 76 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It fills a real need, too.
Matt Goncalves in pick 112 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
AJ Barner slipping to Round 5, Pick 13 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tre Harris at the Round 6 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Josh Proctor at No. 213 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Landon Jackson at Round 7, Pick 13 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
