You can draft well and still miss the point. The Chargers did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to edge rusher, which was the need that mattered most.
Pritchett at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The Rosengarten reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They took Adonai Mitchell at par in slot 37, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Javon Bullard in No. 69 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Donovan Edwards at pick 105 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board had Nehemiah Pritchett higher than the 142nd overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Roger Rosengarten at Round 6, Pick 8 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A premium they did not need to pay, Matthew Jones a notch or two before his time. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
