The real work happened on the phones. The Chargers fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Pearsall. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Taliese Fuaga and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get an anchor for the offensive line. A clean fit for the roster.
Javon Foster in Round 3, Pick 8 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Marist Liufau. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Value with a capital V on D.J. James in No. 88, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A quiet steal in slot 145: Jaheim Bell for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
Jason Marshall Jr. at the 158th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tidy bit of business in No. 186, where LaDarius Henderson graded well above the range. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Good price on Moose Muhammad III in pick 193, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Ricky Pearsall in Round 7, Pick 9 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
