The Chargers spent the weekend waiting on one name, and it fell: Kalen King, the No. 139 name on the board, in pick 185.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The trades cost them a sliver of value they did not need to spend.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September. Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
A quiet steal in the 37th pick: Cooper DeJean for less than the market said. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jordan Morgan at No. 58 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
The board fumbled Max Melton all the way to pick No. 105, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
The board had Brenden Rice higher than pick 110, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Tommy Eichenberg at slot 140 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Steal is underselling it; Kalen King at the 185th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
M.J. Devonshire in Round 7, Pick 5 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Miyan Williams in slot 253 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
