The Kedon Slovis pick is the one that will follow the Chargers into the fall. They took him 61 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
On value alone, Harden makes the weekend a net positive. For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Spending an early pick on OLB-EDGE with running back and tight end open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the running back spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 7 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
They paid sticker price for Keon Coleman in the 37th pick, and that is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They went early on Michael Hall Jr. in No. 69, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose OLB-EDGE. Javon Solomon in the Round 4 slot leaves running back and tight end for later.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Luke McCaffrey in the 139th overall pick, miles early. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nothing to complain about; Braiden McGregor went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Myles Harden in the 221st pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Michael Barrett at pick 225 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They reached into another round for Kedon Slovis, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It fills a real need, too.
