Call it larceny. Dominic Lovett sat on the board until Round 7, Pick 13, and the Chargers did not need to be asked twice.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. Spending an early pick on defensive back with interior defensive lineman, cornerback and other spots open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a matchup weapon at tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, T.J. Tampa adds a defensive back and leaves interior defensive lineman, cornerback and other spots untouched.
Fair-plus on Chris Braswell, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Bucky Irving at pick 112. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Darius Robinson at pick No. 149 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Bryce Foster in the Round 6 slot. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
You do not let a wide receiver like Dominic Lovett reach slot 233 and blink. They did not. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
