Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Adisa Isaac got past him. The Chargers do not have to explain a thing at Round 4, Pick 20. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Jaylen Warren gives the group a proven body among the projects.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board had Kool-Aid McKinstry higher than the 37th overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for Kris Jenkins here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Taking Adisa Isaac in No. 120 is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Dadrion Taylor-Demerson still on the board at the 139th pick. A minor itch, scratched.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 183 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Circle this one: Anthony Gould at slot 223 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Garret Greenfield in Round 7, Pick 36 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A need, and now a little less of one.
