If confidence were a draft strategy, the Chargers would have aced it. Zion Logue at the 256th pick is 34 spots clear of where he belonged. No fireworks, but a solid B.
Landing Brownlee Jr. that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get a security blanket over the middle. A clean fit for the roster.
Roman Wilson at the 37th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Xavier Worthy at the Round 2 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Fair-plus on Mike Sainristil, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They took Zak Zinter at par in pick No. 106, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Taking Jarvis Brownlee Jr. in the 139th pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Drake Nugent at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Frank Gore Jr. in pick No. 223, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Zion Logue at Round 7, Pick 36 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
