Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Xavier Thomas at the 183rd pick is 29 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline.
A whole weekend of picks and cornerback is somehow still a want. The Kinchens value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 5 they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They let Kamren Kinchens come to them and pounced at slot 37. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A straight-up fair deal on Mekhi Wingo at pick No. 69, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Braelon Allen in the 105th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Javon Foster at the Round 5 slot is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Xavier Thomas at No. 183 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reach for Maurice Smith in pick 226; a little patience would have been rewarded. It fills a real need, too.
