There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Chargers started one anyway for Jordan Whittington, 51 picks ahead of schedule.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made.
Job largely done: edge rusher settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 7 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
They reached a country mile for T'Vondre Sweat at No. 37, and the board is aghast. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kingsley Suamataia in Round 2, Pick 6 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They went early on Blake Corum in the 69th pick, and the value did not follow. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They liked Junior Colson enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 105. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Mike Sainristil in the Round 5 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui in No. 183 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach for Curtis Jacobs in Round 6, Pick 9; a little patience would have been rewarded. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jordan Whittington well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
