The trade table was a mismatch, and the Chargers were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value.
Sweat has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
That Irving pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The Darren Waller deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a moveable chess piece at tight end at fair value.
They talked themselves into T'Vondre Sweat at pick 37, and the board did not agree. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Jackson Powers-Johnson in the 47th pick, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Junior Colson in No. 69 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A slide stopped in the 105th overall pick, with Bucky Irving worth more than the price. It fills a real need, too.
Cam Hart in slot 142 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Javon Baker at Round 6, Pick 8 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They jumped the gun on Dylan McMahon, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
