You can hear the double-takes from here. The Buccaneers took Dani Dennis-Sutton at the 46th pick, roughly 37 spots before his name belonged. It nets out a thoroughly average C+.
The Perkins Jr. pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with interior defensive lineman, tight end and other spots still on the board. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it. Job largely done: offensive lineman settled and 4 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Nearly every premium pick went to that side of the ball.
In the end, one you will need a couple of seasons to truly judge.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 15th overall pick they get a downhill thumper at linebacker. Need was not the driver here.
A real head-scratcher, Dani Dennis-Sutton in slot 46 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid up for Bryce Lance at pick No. 77 when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman, tight end and other spots still to address, they spent Round 4, Pick 16 on Harold Perkins Jr., a linebacker they were not short of.
Charles Demmings at No. 155 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No edge and no loss on Pat Coogan in the Round 6 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Trey Zuhn III at pick 229 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
