Boards are made to be trusted, and the Chargers shredded theirs for Jaden Shirden. He came off 30 spots early, and the room will hear about it. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. Kader Kohou gives the group a proven body among the projects.
That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 21 they get an island corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
No drama and no debate, Xavier Legette went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 5. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board had Jordan Morgan higher than the 51st overall pick, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Ricky Pearsall at pick 69 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Dominick Puni at pick No. 105 is the proof. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reach on McKinnley Jackson in slot 110; the board had better options right there. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A clean, defensible pick in the 140th overall pick with a little surplus value in Jarrian Jones. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Khristian Boyd in the Round 5 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Malik Mustapha at pick No. 181 is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Frank Gore Jr. in the 225th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for Jaden Shirden at slot 253, and the board is aghast. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
