Thirty-one other rooms let Mason Taylor slide, and the Chiefs were the ones holding the card at pick No. 148. Highway robbery. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
The cost of the Grant reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 32 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Andrew Mukuba in the 64th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Charles Grant. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Fair-plus on Tez Johnson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Somehow Mason Taylor was still sitting there in pick 148, and they pounced on premier tight end value. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
