The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Chiefs watched Jordan Hancock slide 36 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Carter reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Tight end was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. Nothing gained and nothing lost at the table.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Wyatt Milum in Round 2, Pick 3 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for Dylan Fairchild in No. 64, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jordan Hancock at slot 66 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Abdul Carter in the 96th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The roster fit checks out.
Nick Emmanwori in pick No. 109 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They robbed the room for Ozzy Trapilo here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; Jonah Coleman at the Round 5 slot is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A need, and now a little less of one.
Mitchell Evans in the 255th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
