Boards are made to be trusted, and the Chiefs shredded theirs for Jaylen Wright. He came off 27 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Getting Hopper where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 31st overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
Ruke Orhorhoro in slot 63 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No edge and no loss on Blake Fisher in Round 3, Pick 31; it is a wash and a sensible one. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jaylen Wright at pick 131 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A quiet steal in No. 161: Ty'Ron Hopper for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
LaDarius Henderson at pick No. 171 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They took Curtis Jacobs at par in No. 175, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jawhar Jordan at the 209th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A straight-up fair deal on Walter Rouse at slot 252, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
