Thirty-one other rooms let Ro Torrence slide, and the Chiefs were the ones holding the card at pick No. 252. Highway robbery. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd pick they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
T.J. Tampa at Round 2, Pick 32 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Somehow Jermaine Burton was still sitting there in No. 95, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Matt Goncalves here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Taking James Williams in pick No. 159 is close to grand larceny; a linebacker that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Jalyx Hunt at the Round 5 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: Ro Torrence still on the board at pick 252. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
