You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Chiefs did exactly that with Ty French in pick No. 117.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on Martinez to cover a lot of smaller sins.
They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend.
Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 32 they get an anchor for the defensive front. A clean fit for the roster.
Jordan Hancock in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A minor itch, scratched.
Josh Simmons at slot 69 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached a country mile for Xavier Restrepo at the 96th overall pick, and the board is aghast. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Ty French. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Damien Martinez at pick No. 128. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Fair-plus on Jaeden Roberts, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Noah Thomas at pick No. 193, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Oronde Gadsden II went about where he belonged in the 224th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
