You can draft well and still miss the point. The Chiefs did plenty of tidy work and somehow never got around to quarterback, which was the need that mattered most.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but quarterback.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get a No. 1 receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Fair-plus on Kingsley Suamataia, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Brenden Rice at pick 95 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Theo Johnson at the 133rd pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 5 slot with a little surplus value in Malik Mustapha. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Dillon Johnson in pick No. 172 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The roster fit checks out.
