Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Patrick Paul got past him. The Chiefs do not have to explain a thing at Round 3, Pick 32. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. On the needs board they went 3 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get a No. 1 receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Taking Roman Wilson in the Round 2 slot is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Circle this one: Patrick Paul at the 95th pick is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Andru Phillips at Round 4, Pick 33 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Dallin Holker in pick No. 158 is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Tykee Smith in the 172nd overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
