The Chiefs won the night they stopped King from sliding. Grade: B.

You build a draft on nights like this. Kalen King had no business being available in the 172nd pick, and the Chiefs did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

The tight end spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.

A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.32 · Pick 32 · Amarius Mims · OT · rank 22
Amarius Mims slipping to the 32nd overall pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R2.32 · Pick 64 · T.J. Tampa · CB · rank 49
A quiet steal in the 64th pick: T.J. Tampa for less than the market said. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
R3.32 · Pick 95 · Xavier Legette · WR · rank 74
They robbed the room for Xavier Legette here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.33 · Pick 133 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 108
They barely believed it either: Will Shipley still on the board at Round 4, Pick 33. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.22 · Pick 158 · Johnny Wilson · WR · rank 128
You do not let a wide receiver like Johnny Wilson reach slot 158 and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Kalen King · CB · rank 140
They will replay Kalen King at pick 172 for years; that is how good the value is. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
