The Bears ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
If Foster pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want.
The Franklin steal is the beam this whole class leans on.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 9 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
In slot 16 they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the Round 1 slot they get a disruptor off the edge at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In pick No. 30 they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
No drama and no debate, Calen Bullock went about where he belonged in the 52nd overall pick. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 79th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jordan Travis at Round 5, Pick 10 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reach for Jonah Monheim in No. 153; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Bryce Foster at slot 193 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It fills a real need, too.
Zakhari Franklin at pick No. 232 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
