Somebody in No. 252 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Chiefs sat still while Isaiah Williams, the No. 180 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. They will need Wingo to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
No edge and no loss on Kiran Amegadjie in the Round 2 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid a round early for Mekhi Wingo in No. 95, more than the board wanted. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They read the board right and Josh Newton was the payoff at the 132nd pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Chau Smith-Wade at Round 5, Pick 23 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Javon Foster reach pick 173 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Circle this one: Isaiah Williams at pick No. 252 is a fall that decides a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
