There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Chiefs started one anyway for Dasan McCullough, 41 picks ahead of schedule. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The Stewart steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The McCullough pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with tight end, quarterback and other spots still on the board. That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the tight end spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 32 they get a wrecking ball inside. A real need, handled.
Somehow Evan Stewart was still sitting there in the 64th overall pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Xavier Nwankpa at the Round 3 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A wild overpay on Bryce Foster in No. 96, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A curious use of slot 128. Tight end, quarterback and other spots needed the pick; a safety in Dasan McCullough did not.
Nazir Stackhouse at Round 6, Pick 2 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Good price on Armand Membou in pick No. 193, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jordan James in the 224th pick, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
