You build a draft on nights like this. Brandon Dorlus had no business being available in pick 95, and the Chiefs did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Reaching for Henderson left real value on the table behind him. They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with tight end the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
By-the-book stuff, Payton Wilson at pick No. 64 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Brandon Dorlus in the 95th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Daijun Edwards in the 133rd overall pick, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
The board had cheaper options than LaDarius Henderson at No. 158, and it noticed. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kitan Oladapo in Round 5, Pick 36 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Ethan Driskell at pick 210 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Trey Taylor at slot 250 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
